Brain Inflammation Relief

Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain, usually caused by a direct viral infection or a hyper-sensitivity reaction to a virus or foreign protein. Brain inflammation caused by a bacterial infection is sometimes called cerebritis. When both the brain and spinal cord are involved, the disorder is called encephalomyelitis. An inflammation of the brain’s covering, or meninges, is called meningitis.

The inflammation is a reaction of the body’s immune system to infection or invasion. During the inflammation, the brain’s tissues become swollen. The combination of the infection and the immune reaction to it can cause headache and a fever, as well as more severe symptoms in some cases.Approximately 2,000 cases of encephalitis are reported to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA each year.

There are two natural way to to fight brain inflammation, Take Two: Sublingual B-12 and Nopalea? Cactus Juice.

You may not know how crucial Vitamin B-12 is to brain health. Study after study shows B-12′s role in fighting brain erosion, mental decline and other inflammatory brain conditions.

For a scientific look at why B-12 and Nopalea work so well together, I’ve asked TriVita Chief Science Officer Brazos Minshew to explain.

This is a story about fat: good fat, properly metabolised fat. Two-thirds of the human brain is fat. The truth is, most of us don’t eat enough of the right kinds of fats. But even when we do, there are toxins in our environment that keep us from metabolising them properly (using them for energy.) The soil that most food is grown in that most of us eat is contaminated with lead and other heavy metals that block metabolism of fat. Here’s another issue: lead can block even the essential fatty acids you get from food and supplements

.

"So what can detoxify the lead that blocks the good fat from getting through? TriVita’s Sublingual B-12. One of the most important things that Sublingual B-12 does for us is to unblock our metabolism so that the fats can get to where we need them."

Meet taurine, the "pilot" of our fat transport system

Once the good fats have been unblocked by B-12, they need to get to all the places in the brain and body where they do their good work. They need a transport ?specialist’ (actually a transport molecule), and it’s an amino acid called taurine. However, we don’t get taurine in our diet. Our bodies have to manufacture it, and almost anything can interrupt the process. Here’s the exciting part where Nopalea comes in:

Nopalea is loaded with taurine!

In fact, Nopalea is the only mature fruit source of taurine in all of nature!

Get what you need with Sublingual B-12 & Nopalea

In partnership with Sublingual B-12, Nopalea is a ?must’ to help us think, feel and function at our best. Here’s an analogy that may help you remember: think of a gondola on a canal in Venice. Taurine is the gondola, Sublingual B-12 is the gondolier, and the good fats are the happy couple sitting there enjoying the ride to their destination.

Chronic Inflammation Relief

Chronic Inflammation Relief

Inflammation is the source of many diseases and some people, go from doctor to doctor, prescribed different medications. All our technology and medical advances have gotten us all kinds of ways to treat symptoms, but what is at the root of the problem? Why is the cholesterol in your arteries? It?s there to repair, but why does it need to be there? Well we can lower cholesterol, so let?s prescribed a statin, that will fix it! But then we are left dealing with the side effects of the drug. Do we actually decrease our risk of heart disease? Do we need the drugs? Before we bash inflammation, we need to realize that it is a natural process. We need it. Yes you read right we need inflammation. For most healthy individuals they will become temporary inflamed, heal and then return to homeostasis. However, we were designed to deal with acute inflammation, which could be caused by:

  • something traumatic like a punch
  • infections
  • frostbite
  • cuts
  • burns
  • allergic reactions

So if we look at these and then the corresponding signs of inflammation:

  • redness
  • swelling
  • pain
  • loss of function

Then it makes sense. The body is doing what is its innate nature, so we can deal with injury and illness. Our problem is that we?re greedy and our modern lifestyles are breeding grounds for chronic inflammation. We don?t know how to handle this inflammation over and over again. Again there are so many variables and creations for chronic inflammation (most stemming from lifestyle choices, like I mentioned). Things that can promote inflammation:

  • Stress
  • Poor Nutrition (high in toxic foods
  • insufficient in omega-3 while being high in omega-6)
  • Poor gut health
  • Smoking
  • Lack of sleep (Don?t underestimate the power of sleep)
  • Obesity and diabetes fuel inflammation. As a result this can encourage: leptin resistance, impaired fat and glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, and beta-cell destruction
  • Too much exercise. Awe that chronic cardio is too much stress for the body.

If you ask me these all look that things you can change, not some pill to take but some lifestyle changes can decrease your risk of disease. Obviously there are a lot of factors, so what should we do to decrease chances of chronic inflammation?

  • Nourish ourselves: lay off the industrial omega-6 intensive oils, get more omega-3, buy quality REAL foods (grass-fed beef, organic produce), steer clear of gluten and grains, stay away from the sugars, eat foods rich in antioxidants that can neutralize free-radicals and decrease oxidative stress (love my first pressed-olive oil, wild fish, cruciferous veggies and some berries!), eat probiotic foods and sort out your gut health.
  • SLEEP
  • Don?t stress the small stuff
  • Don?t smoke
  • Move, don?t over-exercise but don?t be sedentary either

Chronic Inflammation Relief

Chronic Inflammation Relief

The Effects of Chronic Inflammation

There are so many causes of inflammation, it’s highly likely that right now, as you read this, your body has many sites that are inflamed. This isn’t the problem, though. The problem is all of sites in your body where, for a variety of reasons, your inflammation isn’t being turned off. Instead, the inflammation just keeps going and going. This is chronic inflammation.

There are several factors that can keep your body from turning off its inflammation response, but three factors are especially prevalent:

  1. Chronic Stress? it keeps your body constantly ?revved up,? wasting nutrient stores and impairing its ability to stop inflammation from becoming chronic
  2. Chronic Nutritional Deficiencies ? without the right nutrition, on a daily basis, your body may not have the right resources to put a halt to ongoing inflammation
  3. Chronic Toxin Overload ? in today’s world, your body is constantly fighting off toxins, pollutants and contaminants from so many sources that it simply can be too overwhelmed to stop the never ending, triggered inflammation

You’ll notice that there’s one thing in common with all three of the above factors, the word Chronic. When these adverse factors are chronic (constant), it greatly increases the chance that your body’s inflammation will be chronic, too. And it’s exactly this type of inflammation ? the chronic kind ? that TIME Magazine featured in 2004 calling it “The Secret Killer” because it can be so damaging to your health.

Here are some common examples of how you could be suffering from various kinds of chronic inflammation and their related health problems include:

  • Muscle, joint and bone inflammation ? causing ongoing body pain

  • Respiratory inflammation ? causing allergies and breathing difficulties
  • Arterial inflammation ? causing heart health problems
  • Digestive tract inflammation ? causing ulcers and IBS
  • Widespread body cell inflammation ? causing overall fatigue

Natural Pain Relief

Natural Pain Relief

Most people experiences pain at some time or another. For some, it is a daily battle. Most of us deal with different kinds of pain by taking over-the-counter medications such as aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen or for more chronic pain, prescription drugs. For many people who would prefer not to put prescription drugs in their bodies, those who may be hypersensitive to their effects, wary of possible side effects, or people with sensitive stomachs that may not tolerate even over-the-counter medications, there is good news. There are natural pain killers that are available and effective in relieving pain.

Methyl-sulphonyl-methane (MSM)
MSM is a naturally occurring organic form of sulphur found in all living things and a nutrient our bodies requires but often lacks because it is lost during food processing and cooking. MSM is a powerful painkiller that inhibits the transmission of pain impulses and has anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and analgesic properties. Continuing research and reports from patients and physicians also indicate that MSM is effective in headaches, allergies, heartburn, constipation, and skin disorders. It is available both as a dietary supplement and as a cream for topical application.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin
Glucosamine and chondroitin are nutritional supplements that significantly reduce the pain of arthritic joints. Glucosamine is a natural compound that is found in healthy cartilage. Often taken in combination with chondroitin, Glucosamine is a glycosaminoglycan derived from articular cartilage. Use of complementary therapies, including glucosamine, is common in patients with osteoarthritis, and may allow for reduced doses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.

Boswellia
Clinical trials have proved that the Indian herb boswellia is as effective as conventional drugs for both chronic and minor pains. More potent and less toxic than standards NSAIDS, boswellic acids decrease the production of inflammatory compounds implicated in many chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Boswellia is available both as a dietary supplement and as a topical cream.

These three natural products also form the main ingredients of TriVita’s Joint Complex which has been specifically formulated to relieve pain and inflammation in your joints.

Muscle Inflammation

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Inflamed Muscles

There are many natural ways to help your body heal from sore, inflamed muscles. A variety of methods can help you recover quickly, including enzymes, herbal medicines and topical treatments.

Bromelain is one of the most effective natural anti-inflammatory enzymes. Derived from pineapple, it can decrease inflammation and swelling in injured tissues.

According to an article published in December 2003 in the journal Biochemical Pharmacology, Curcumin, which is a compound derived from the herb turmeric, has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Curcumin has been recommended by naturopathic physicians for decades for decreasing inflammation.

Topical treatments can help alleviate inflamed, painful muscles and assist you with recovery. If your muscles or tendons are acutely inflamed (within 48 hours of injury), use ice topically or soak the affected area in cold water with ice in it.

You can drape a bag of frozen corn or peas over the painful or inflamed muscles for 5 to 10 minutes up to four times a day.

Beyond 48 hours after an acute injury, begin alternating cold with heat. It’s best to start with hot water and soak the affected area for 1 minute, then soak in cold water for 30 seconds. Alternate three times, always ending with cold, and do this three times a day until your pain is alleviated.

If you don’t have acute pain but you suffer from muscle soreness, a great home remedy is soaking in a hot bath with a cup of Epsom salts. These salts are unique because they are made of magnesium sulfate; when you soak with them in a hot bath, they are absorbed through your skin and help draw out stored tissue wastes.

If you have painful muscles, remember that it is your body’s way of telling you that you need to rest until you feel better.

Turmeric – Inflammation Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Turmeric – Inflammation Relief

Turmeric has been used in India as a medicine, beauty aid, cooking spice, talisman amulet and a dye. Dioscorides spoke highly of it in 60 AD when he wrote the herbal that would be Europe’s main herb source for the next 1600 years. Marco Polo praised it in his journals of 1280 AD. It has been used in Chinese medicine for over 1000 years to purify the blood, move Chi and strengthen the reproductive system. Hawaiian Kahuna use it as a sacred healing herb and in Brazil it is used to treat poisonous Viper bites.

Common knowledge to every woman in India, one of the most beneficial aspects of Turmeric is to improve complexion. While supporting the healing of acne, wounds, skin cancer and more, Turmeric purifies and nourishes the blood and skin so that the glow of health is not marred by blemishes and impurities but amplified through radiant clarity.

Close to the core of Turmeric’s healing power is its ability to cleanse, build and move blood like no other herb, making it an especially valuable herb to support the skin, liver and the female reproductive system. Turmeric protects your liver from toxins, pathogens and excessive cholesterol and helps to detoxify and rejuvenate it.

As an antioxidant, Turmeric protects the lungs from pollution and toxins. It increases the oxygen transfer from the lungs to the blood and is a good choice for bronchitis and other pulmonary infections, especially when taken with fresh garlic.

When it comes to first-aid, It serves in accidents ranging from cuts to concussions. For any trauma this rhizome accelerates healing and minimizes damage. Turmeric stops bleeding, heals tissue, is a strong anti-inflammatory and is a broad spectrum anti-microbial capable of stopping bacterial, fungal and viral infections.

Turmeric has a triple action against cancer: it helps to neutralizes those substances and conditions which can cause cancer; it has over ten powerful antioxidants that directly help a cell retain its integrity if threatened by carcinogens; and if a tumour does grow, it can often eradicate it. Even if one were using allopathic medicine to treat cancer, they can still use Turmeric to increase the effectiveness and decrease some of the side effects of cancer treatments.

To most people in India, from housewives to Himalayan hermits, Turmeric, affectionately called the "kitchen queen", is the main spice of the kitchen. Being both a ubiquitous spice and a safe healer Turmeric adds a literal meaning to the phrase, "The Spice of Life".

Inflammation and Your Heart

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Inflammation Relief

Due to our modern day unhealthy lifestyles and the toxins our bodies are exposed to every day, inflammation has now evolved into a destructive process precluding many serious and chronic ailments. The trend in our society towards chemical-laden fast foods and grocery store processed foods has been paramount to the problem due to their inflammation-causing properties. Add to that the high-stress atmosphere in our modern day world, constant exposure to a toxic environment, a vastly overweight population along with rampant obesity; and a deadly cocktail has been born. This "silent" inflammation is a killer and usually remains unnoticed until you fall prey to a disabling autoimmune disorder or crippling disease.

Recent studies, by medical professionals recognise that the real culprit in cases of cardiovascular disease is not so much high cholesterol, but silent and deadly inflammation in our arteries.

Inflammation awareness is vital to preventing and recognizing the signals of silent inflammation. Some situations that can cause you to be more susceptible to the dangers of chronic inflammation are:

  • State of being overweight or gross obesity
  • Poor diet consisting mostly of fast and processed foods
  • Extreme situations of prolonged emotional stress
  • Highly strenuous physical activity on a regular basis
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Known exposure to toxins in the environment

Be sure to ask your physician to check your C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, homocysteine,Inflamed Blood Vessel lipoprotein (a) or Lp(a), interleukin6, and fibrinogen levels for inflammatory markers in your blood. CRP blood analysis is especially helpful in determining risk of cardiovascular disease. A scientific research team of physicians headed up by cardiologist Paul Ridker of Harvard University reported that "half of all heart attacks occur in people with normal cholesterol levels". The medical team also established that these additional tests for inflammation are necessary to more accurately predict future risks of heart attack, stroke or heart disease. Cholesterol tests alone simply are not adequate for this determination of future events.

Now that we understand that inflammation is at the root of most major diseases, we can take positive steps to monitor and control our inflammation levels. Changing our diet; controlling our weight; adding a moderate exercise routine; getting enough sleep; and keeping stress to a minimum are all healthy steps to begin reducing inflammation. By adding a highly effective, all natural anti-inflammatory cactus juice to your routine, you will ensure maximum success on your journey to health and wellness.

Tips to avoid Pain and Inflammation

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Inflammation Relief

Now that winter has past, its time to get out and about but take care not to overdo things and cause additional aches and pains.

Most of us haven’t mowed the lawn, planted bulbs, or gone for a bicycle ride during the winter months. Starting a lawn mower or weed whacker can stress the back and shoulders, putting you out of commission for days, weeks, or longer. As satisfying as gardening is, kneeling and pulling and digging for hours on end can stress muscles and the spine in ways it hasn’t seen since last year; and you’ll be very unhappy the next day if you overdo it.

Furthermore, those sunny and warm days may have you excited about your new fitness routine, but too many of us will jump in headfirst and pay the price.

One key to caring for your body is hydration. Not only can drinking plenty of water protect you from heat-related illness, but also there’s the fact that your body is mostly water. Spinal discs are typically 70, 80, even 90% water! Drinking plenty of pure water can save you spinal problems by protecting your back. The discs of your spine space the bones, and well-hydrated discs means plenty of room for delicate nerve roots to your muscles, allowing your frame to function at its peak potential. How’s that for an inexpensive way to care for your body?

Athletes commonly warm up for up to an hour before their events; and you should consider the wisdom inherent in easing into activity. If you’re going to sweat and strain, consider a gentle 5-minute walk first. If you’re going to bend forward a lot, try "depressurizing" your spinal discs by gently bending backwards a few times. If your activity will involve your shoulders, very gently put them through an active range of motion for a few minutes before you start pulling and straining at those weeds. Let your joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons warm up to your tasks, and you may save yourself a lot of heartache.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Inflammation is associated with a number of health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and even cancer. Dr. Mark Liponis, medical director of Canyon Ranch, shares his expertise on how to identify, treat and prevent inflammation in the body.

"Inflammation is a stress reaction of the immune system for any reason?from infection, for example," Liponis said. "It could be from an injury or some process in the body like an auto-immune disease."

"It?s very nonspecific," he added."It can affect the whole person."

According to Liponis, there are blood tests, which can detect low levels of inflammation in the body. Doctors can either look at white blood cell count?the higher the count, the more inflammation?or look at c-reactive protein, which is an even more accurate test that can find levels of inflammation so low a person can?t feel them.

To prevent inflammation, Liponis recommended a few simple steps, including regular exercise, staying at a healthy weight, and taking various supplements such as vitamin D and fish oil.

For a person who already has inflammation, the same recommendations apply?however, Liponis said it may be necessary to follow them more strictly. In other words, a person with inflammation may need to exercise even more than a person without inflammation or increase his or her intake of supplements.

Inflammation

Inflammation is running amok each day and everyday as we ingest foods designed for shelf life not human life; foods manufactured to reduce fat that comply with the ill-fated cholesterol theory based on faulty research lacking scientific fact.

Inflammation is neither complicated nor mysterious. It is your body’s protective response to a germ, bacteria or foreign invader threatening your life. We cannot see the internal process but we see it externally in bruising, swelling and finally healing.

This army of warriors have scientific names such as macrophage, a type of white blood cell that assists the body’s fight against bacteria and infection by engulfing and destroying invading organisms. Another is cytokines, a protein molecule secreted by cells in the immune system

They each play distinctive roles in the battle to keep infection from overwhelming your body. This process occurs naturally without your giving it a thought; a built in response that saves your life countless times throughout your years of living.

The problem is that the body detects processed foods, sugars and simple carbohydrates no differently than a germ, bacteria or foreign invader. The inflammation switch trips on, and the army rushes out to battle.

Inflammation in your heart is heart disease; in your eyes macular degeneration; in your cells obesity and in your brain Alzheimer’s.

The good news is, you have the power to take control over inflammation right now.

Return to whole, real foods even a steak and an occasional dab of butter. Before you react with horror to the thought of real butter, look closely at any margarine label. Any food process that requires chemicals with ingredients you cannot name brings out the warriors to attack the foreign substance. Your body has no choice in how it responds.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Pain and Inflammation

The American Osteopathic Association’s 2nd annual survey showed that 83% of people in Florida say they, or someone they care for, have experienced pain in the past month. Pain sufferers in Florida are not alone. More than 76 million Americans in the United States live with pain every day which affects more people than cancer, diabetes and heart disease combined.

There is no question that pain is a difficult condition to treat. Frequently, the treatment approach has to be customized according to the underlying cause, the patient’s overall health and physical condition, and so forth. Thus, there is no one-size-fit-all approach when it comes to pain.

You can try the following:

1. Remember that pain is our body’s "signal" to us that something is wrong. Getting a handle on the underlying problem can go a long way towards developing a plan to deal with both the underlying issue and the pain it is causing.

2. Topical analgesics, like BioFreeze and Sombra can help, but it can depend on the underlying condition. So lower back pain may respond better to a Salonpas Patch, but not to a Sombra roll on. It just depends.

3. Pain location is just as important. Back and neck pain may have very similar causes, but their treatment can be quite different. For example, neck support pillows can help with neck pain, while knee elevator or leg pillows can take the stress off the lower back. Pillows are also nice because they are, of course, drug free! Then there are issues, like sciatic pain, which baffle doctors and sufferers alike

4. Nopalea Cactus Juice has also proved effective in dealing with Chronic pain and inflammation.

These are but a few suggestions for helping you deal with chronic pain. There are many others, like massage, chiropractic care, and other approaches. Do your homework and develop an action plan, along with your doctor, to deal with your underlying condition and pain.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Systemic inflammation

What causes systemic inflammation?

Usually, food allergies or sensitivities we are unaware of. Often we are slightly sensitive to things like gluten, dairy, and eggs. Those are the most common, but you can be sensitive to anything. Also, taking lots of medication, or one medication for a long time, because toxins in the medication do, damage your tissues. Advil causes you to lose 1-2 oz of blood from your stomach lining every time you take 2. Now, don’t get me wrong here I take Advil if pain is preventing me from functioning in the world. I work hard, though, to prevent that level of pain. I do this by ridding my diet of inflammatory substances, which for me are gluten and dairy that is not organic, raw and fermented, as well as making sure I have enough minerals and proper electrolyte balance in my body.

Inflammation occurs when the body repairs damaged tissues, which is normal. An example of this is high cholesterol and its relationship to heart disease. Cholesterol is a substance your liver produces. If you are eating it, in terms of animal protein, your body stop making it. Cholesterol is required for hormones?which are important. Cholesterol is not the enemy of your arteries. Inflammation damages the arteries, trying to repair things and making a mess, and Cholesterol comes and sets itself down (plaque) to make the artery walls more stable. Reduce inflammation, and you eliminate the need for cholesterol plaques, the body can heal itself (by reabsorbing the cholesterol), and you can be healthy and happy.

Chronic Pain Relief

More than 116 million Americans suffer from chronic pain according to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. This results in hundreds of billions of dollars in health care costs in addition to lost wages. Although there are a number of remedies, more than half the people questioned say they have little to no control over their pain.

People who suffer from chronic pain due to fibromyalgia and arthritis and the like often cannot tolerate any over-the-counter or prescription pain relievers, so seek relief from alternative methods. You can do you best to prevent the pain from getting unmanageable by following a few simple practices.

  • Prayer. Begin every day in prayer. The quiet, calming effect of meditative prayer is relaxing and encourages deep breathing.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Why is Chronic Inflammation a Problem?

The term inflammation is derived from the Latin ‘inflammare? which means ‘to set on fire?! Inflammation can easily be identified by redness, heat and swelling. Many common conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and autoimmune conditions are chronic inflammatory conditions.

The exposure of cells and tissues to chronic inflammation causes significant damage and if left unresolved causes cellular impairment and loss of functional tissue, not to mention the associated pain. Many of us reach for a ‘quick fix? to relieve inflammation such as the popular non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications.

These medications, particularly when used long term have a wide range of adverse side effects including stomach ulceration and perforation, gastrointestinal haemorrhage and recently they have been linked to an increased risk of stroke. The good news is that we can manage systemic inflammation with healthy diet and lifestyle choices and supplementation with correct herbs and nutrients.

Herbal and Nutritional Medicines

  • Bromelain is an enzyme extracted from pineapples that reduces swelling and bruising. It also acts as an antiinflammatory agent.
  • Quercetin is recommended in cases of allergies, inflammation, oxidative stress and cardiovascular complaints.
  • Chinese Red Pine is a rich source of procyanidins, these compounds exert powerful antioxidant effects. It may be used in any condition where tissue integrity is compromised such as cardiovascular or metabolic complaints.
  • Ginger reduces inflammation and joint pain. Its effect is comparable to anti-inflammatory drugs to manage dysmenorrhoea pain. Ginger can be included in your diet in addition to supplementation.
  • Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and protects cells from the damaging effects of oxidants and inflammation. Vitamin C is also essential for optimal tissue repair by aiding collagen formation.
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids EPA and DHA exert potent antiinflammatory effects and need to be considered a core component in the treatment of inflammatory conditions. Oily fish such as Salmon, Mackerel, Anchovies and Sardines are rich sources of omega 3?s and can be included in the diet.

Sarcoidosis

Sarcoidosis is a disease in which inflammation occurs in the lymph nodes, lungs, liver, eyes, skin, or other tissues. Symptoms: There may be no symptoms. When symptoms occur, they can involve almost any body part or organ.

Scientists do not know what causes sarcoidosis; it seems to be related to the malfunctioning of the immune system. The disease may possibly be triggered by an infection or exposure to a toxin in the environment, especially airborne toxins.

The lungs are the most commonly affected organs. Granulomas in the lung leave less space for the air exchange that needs to take place. This can cause the lungs to stiffen. Other commonly affected organs are the skin, eyes, liver and lymph nodes. In rare instances, the brain may be affected.

Sarcoidosis seems to cluster in certain ethnic groups and regions around the industrialized world. Some people may be more susceptible to sarcoidosis, especially women of childbearing age of African-American, Northern European, Scandinavian and Irish descent.

Symptoms vary and may include coughing, shortness of breath, rash (may or may not be raised), pain or irritation of eyes, night sweats, swollen lymph nodes, pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. They can occur in different parts of the body, depending on where the granulomas form.

Most symptoms develop in the lungs, skin, eyes and liver. Multiple body systems may also be affected. Symptoms may come and go. This disease is often acute, but in some patients it is chronic, waxing and waning.

Diagnosis
The doctor will ask about your symptoms and medical history, and perform a physical exam. There is no specific lab test that confirms a diagnosis of sarcoidosis. Instead, the diagnosis is made by noting a group of symptoms and a number of medical tests that are usually positive in patients with this condition.

In some cases there may not be any symptoms. The disease may sometimes be suspected based on the appearance of a routine x-ray. A blood test may show increased calcium levels, which can occur with sarcoidosis and a urine test may show elevated levels of calcium in the urine.

Treatment aims to ease symptoms and minimize permanent problems. Treatment may include:

  • Monitoring for symptoms and complications of sarcoidosis
  • Medication ? usually anti-inflammatory medications (both steroid and non-steroidal)
  • Eye drops may be used for mild eye problems
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation programs may help improve lung function

Stress is a major trigger for autoimmune conditions, including sarcoidosis. As you remove toxic chemicals from your environment, give consideration to toxic levels of stress as well. Remember, the four common causes of all states of immune system imbalance are trauma (injury), toxins, deficiency and stress.
